National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform

The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) works to reduce incarceration and violence, improve the outcomes of system-involved youth and adults, and increase the capacity and expertise of the organizations that serve these individuals.

American Civil Liberties Union

The ACLU also remains a champion of segments of the population who have traditionally been denied their rights, with much of our work today focused on equality for people of color, women, gay and transgender people, prisoners, immigrants, and people with disabilities.

Innocence Project

We exonerate the innocent through DNA testing and reform the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. The Innocence Project's mission is to free the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated, and to bring reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment.

Joyful Heart Foundation

The vision of the Joyful Heart Foundation is a world free of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. Our mission is to transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, support survivors’ healing, and end this violence forever.

Push Black

PushBlack's mission is to inspire Black people to take liberating actions in the best interest of their community.

That means we create compelling media on the richness of Black life and history that inspires people to take actions benefiting Black communities culturally, economically, and politically.

We believe as the community’s understanding of their history and current conditions increases, so will:

  1. Their desire to take action to improve their conditions, and

  2. Their trust in PushBlack to connect them with liberating actions.

Once a critical mass of the community consistently takes liberating actions, they will build a liberated world.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Equal Justice Initiative

The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

Brennan Center For Justice

The Brennan Center for Justice is an independent, nonpartisan law and policy organization that works to reform, revitalize, and when necessary, defend our country’s systems of democracy and justice.

Today, we are in a great fight for the future of constitutional democracy in the United States. We are committed to the rule of law. We work to craft and advance a transformative reform agenda — solutions that aim to make American democracy work for all.

Each month Vision For Reform will spotlight and celebrate an organization fighting for reform, whether it be criminal justice or human rights. If you have an organization you think should be spotlighted, email us at dpoole@visionforreform.com.

About RTA

The US prison system is based on punishment. The problem is, it doesn’t work – more than half of people released from prison are back within three years. This revolving door breaks down families and communities and costs taxpayers billions.

RTA offers a better approach. Founded at Sing Sing in 1996, RTA works with professional teaching artists to lead year-round workshops in theater, dance, music, creative writing, and visual arts. The RTA model provides an intensive, comprehensive arts program in prison that builds critical life skills so that people can meet the challenges of connecting with family and community when released.

RTA demonstrates that an approach based on human dignity is vastly more successful than one based on punishment. Less than 3% of RTA members return to prison, compared to the national recidivism rate of 60%.

Policy Initiative

The non-profit, non-partisan Prison Policy Initiative produces cutting edge research to expose the broader harm of mass criminalization, and then sparks advocacy campaigns to create a more just society.

OUR ROLE IN THE MOVEMENT

The Prison Policy Initiative's research and advocacy is at the center of the national conversation about criminal justice reform and over-criminalization. Because essential national and state level data is often completely inaccessible, the Prison Policy Initiative's insightful data analysis and powerful graphics help fill these gaps to bring in new supporters and help other movement leaders achieve their goals.

Justice for Birth Injury Victims

Many birth injuries are the result of medical negligence before, during, or after labor and delivery. Learning birth injury causes, signs, and treatments can empower and guide you as you take action to help your child.

LGBTQ parents across the nation are raising children with physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities. These parents often face unique hurdles when trying to access the best treatment. Fortunately, a variety of resources are available to help LGBTQ-headed families get their children the care they need.
